The
SCT-013 100A is an AC current transformer designed for measuring alternating
current up to 100A. Its split-core design allows for easy installation around
existing conductors, making it particularly suitable for DIY projects. It is
compatible with microcontrollers such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi, making it
ideal for energy monitoring, over-current protection, and various electrical
measurement applications.
SCT-013-000
(100A / 50mA) β Current Output Variant:
This
is a standard current transformer. It has a turns ratio of 1:2000. When 100A
flows through the primary wire, it induces a tiny 50mA AC current in the
secondary wire.
Burden
Resistor: It does not
have an internal burden resistor. You must add your own external burden
resistor across the output terminals to convert this current into a readable
voltage for your microcontroller.
Flexibility: Highly flexible. By choosing the value
of your external burden resistor, you can customize the output voltage range to
perfectly match your microcontroller's ADC (e.g., 5V for an Arduino Uno or 3.3V
for an ESP32).
Safety
Risk: Never leave the
clips open while clamped around an active live wire. If a CT with a current
output is clamped without a burden resistor connected, the secondary voltage
can spike to dangerously high levels, potentially destroying the sensor or
causing an electrical arc.
